Our Mission
Most people don’t realize that children in foster care often travel with nothing more than a trash bag to hold their belongings. We’re here to change that – one bag, and one person at a time. My Bag My Story is on a mission to improve the lives of children in foster care, elevating their sense of dignity and self worth.
Our Founder
Cara Finger has dedicated her life’s work to raising awareness about the foster care and adoption system. Surprised and saddened by the frequent practice of foster children transporting their belongings in trash bags, Cara was moved to #EndTheTrashBag.
Disappointed by the scarce secondhand luggage donations and limited resources available to foster families, Cara called on talented designers and manufacturers to create a product anyone would be proud to carry. Together with the overwhelming support and creativity from the foster care community, Cara founded My Bag My Story.
Our Vision
For every bag purchased, one bag is donated to a foster child in need. We partner with local churches, businesses and organizations to get our bags into the hands of the 8,000+ children in the foster care system across the state of Tennessee.
We are raising hope and awareness one bag and one child at a time.
Since its inception, My Bag My Story has given over 2,600 bags to children in foster care.
With the help of our community, partners and generous donors, we have donated over 2,500 bags since 2020, and hope to double that in 2024.
