City Clothing Closet Experiences
City Clothing Closet Experiences
Not all of our stories come from Foster Parents or Foster Families, we often get first hand accounts from partners, local agencies and other nonprofits who serve the same communities. Learn new ways to support Foster Children by donating clothes to local churches, Foster Care Agencies or city closets.

On Saturday, I helped a 16-year-old girl shop. She had been newly placed with her current Foster Parents but had actually been in the Foster Care System since she was 7.
She looked so sad when she came in that it broke my heart. I showed her her size and she began looking through the clothes. I asked her a few questions to make conversation but she was still very reserved. Slowly, she began finding some things she liked and began warming up.
Towards the end of the shopping, I brought out the bin of My Bag My Story bags and asked her if she had one. She didn’t and began searching through the bin. She stopped when she saw a white backpack with pink interior fabric. She smiled and said, “it’s so pretty.” I think that may have been her favorite item she found that day. It was so great to see her smile as she left the Closet.

On Saturday, a mom came in with two new foster care placements. We always start by giving them a Target bag to shop. The volunteer then got the My Bag, My Story bags out and told the family about your mission and told the kids to pick out a bag.
The 15 yearold boy was in shock. He said I get to have one that is just my own? When she said yes, he picked out a backpack, emptied his target bag, folded
everything neatly and put it all in the My Bag My Story backpack. The
smile on his face said it all.
